Is there something to soften car weatherstripping? My car door won't close all the way.?

I replaced the weatherstripping on my 53 pickup & the door only closes to the first click on the latch. I would prefer not to cut out any of the weatherstripping.

Its not the weather stripping (silicone spray or white lithium grease can fix that) but the latch or striker plate needs adjusting.
