Well first off we had a virus scan that always would scan and freeze up our computer and then we uninstalled it but it keeps scanning anways I mean what is up with them.

Then our printer always has to reinstall before we can print with it.

For a while we couldn't type anything and so we had to reinstall microsoft word.

I can't edit any pictures or anything because it says virtual memory too low.

Is there something wrong with our computer or what?? Thanks!!

  1. You have a virus. The low virtual memory its how I know that. You will probably want to back up your data and do a rebuild, or restore

  2. although it maybe a virus, a low virtual memory "doesn't" always mean you have a virus... infact low virtual memory problems most of the time are problems connected to the RAM and your harddrive.

also slow scans that 'almost freeze' are not as irregular as you might think...

if you didnt find any virus, it might be just a mix of 2 problems:

    >memory problems (slow that seems to freeze virus scan and low virtual memory)

    >MS word and printer problems (check driver and the option on what printer you are using in MS word)

  3. yeah it sure seems to be a computer full of troubles, i would suggest you to back up any important files you got and then format everything and install a fresh copy of you OS. thats the best way to come out of all of this.

  4. It sounds like there is definitely a problem with your computer.  I recommend taking it to someone who either works with computers or fixes them to see if your system can be "cleaned".

  5. Recovery back up disk, if you got one use it, that will fix the problem, but it will erase files you have saved. You're going to have to take files you want to keep and put them on blank disks. If you don't have a back up widows disk, go buy one that is compatible with you're computer. These disk that I told you about storing files that you want to save on blank disk, can be put back on you're computer once you restore windows on you're computer. This virus you have has corrupted you're windows, the only way to get rid of it is to restore windows with a back up windows disk.

  6. Well, yes, there's something wrong with your computer.

It sounds like your system is corrupted or badly infected, and/or you have way too little RAM.  Possibly all of the above.

Consider backing up your data, reinstalling your system, recovering your data and apps, and getting some good anti-malware.  And check your RAM... at least 512Mb-1Gb for xp, 2Gb for Vista.

  7. Yes, definitely something wrong.

Sounds like you need someone to take a look at it for you.  Any friends who are computer knowledgeable who could help?
