Of course with some things just when you feel you mastered it your baby changes and grow. Then you have to learn a new trick! Like the first time I bathed her at home. She was a preemie so I had bathed her at the hospital. But she came home earlier than we thought so I didn't have the baby bath yet. Well an hour after arriving home she pooped out her diaper- all over me and her. So I thought no problem she is only 4lbs 8 oz- the sink will do. Who knew such a tiny thing could be so feisty and slippery- the bath did not go that well! She kept sliding and I couldn't wash her well, then I take her out and she pees on us, so another wipe down is needed. I thought wow I am not doing so great-lol So we got the baby bath and things have been great. Now that she is 8 months- not sitting great but wanting to and wanting to be everywhere in the bath I have had to learn to adjust. So not a pro yet but better-lol The wipe thing I mastered- I think. When she came home for such a tiny thing she needed so many wipes a diaper change- I swear it felt like half the box when I was done-lol Now for the biggest messes I got it to two or three. Okay small victory but I'll take it as such! Of course there is more but I feel with most things I am getting better- juggling housework and her have gotten so much better. I decided the housework will always be there and leave it to a convinent time instead of stressing- I am so much calmer and just accept the amount of sleep I get as being enough. These were big victories and made our lives so much better, The sleeping through the night was all her- so I can't claim that-lol So what about you what is your victory over a disaster or challenge as your baby has grown? What have you grown the most with?

  1. I feel for you, as it is so scary the first time out with a newborn, especially a preemie!  Plus new mothers are worn out with recovering from the birth, lack of sleep, post-partum blues, AND having to feed the baby all the time, whether it be bottle or breast-feeding. Not to mention all the dirty diapers and as you say, the WIPES one has to use!  You sound like a very good mother, very conscientious and caring.....and very concerned about doing the right thing.  You also have reached the realization that your baby and your own sanity come before your house, so congratulations!  One of the big blunders I made as a new mom was giving my daughter undiluted prune juice when she was about 8 months old.  Boy were the diapers horrible for a few days, but no harm done!

  2. Everything I did was so new to me, like holding a newborn, and feeding her a bottle, but the thing I have mastered was changing her diaper. That was the hardest part, between changing it too soon, and her peeing on me, and thinking she was done pooping, and putting a clean diaper on her, when not even a minute later I had to change another, then maybe another lol, I have totally mastered it. I know when she is done pooping when I should change it and how I changed it. Now i really dont mind it!

  3. Your brave, I so did not give either of my girls their first baths. But just for future reference (and they should have told you this at the hospital) you are supposed to sponge bath them until the umbilical cord falls off...so much easier!!

I'd have to say my biggest victory was learning to do things one handed while carrying a baby. That was so awesome lol. I didn't have to find a safe place to set the baby any time i needed to make a bottle or something!

  4. The one thing I have mastered is NOT over packing the diaper bag, while still being prepared for anything!

  5. we are getting better with outings. things arent as hectic because i think of everything before we go out.
