  1. folic acid is essential when ttc and getting pregnant.  why dont you want to take it?  it helps reduce birth defects.  a good multivitamin or prenatal vitamin is also essential and they have folic acid in them already, so you wouldnt have to take it seperately.

baby aspirin one a day also helps to take it while ttc because it helps build a healthy and full uterine lining for the baby to attach itself to!

  2. In getting ready to try to conceive again, I am taking Flintstones with Iron (2 a day - my body won't tolerate others right now),  supplemented with 400mcg additional of folic, and prenatal non-fish oil DHA.   I may add more vit B12 if my doctor approves.   I've been researching everything since our previous baby was born with a major heart defect and a number of other issues. (There was a study in the Netherlands that came out last year that suggested that moms with B12 deficiency may have a higher chance of having a baby with a heart defect.)   With him, I was taking "just" a prenatal vitamin, but maybe that wasn't enough.  Plus I was on a number of prescription meds - one of which I've gone off, because there are some thoughts that med can cause heart defects.   My husband even went off of his anti-depressant since our baby boy was born, just in case that med was causing sperm issues, etc.   We are going to take no chances.  Also during that pregnancy, despite my prenatal vitamins,  I did become very anemic by the second trimester, and my doctor had me taking extra iron and folic acid at that point, too.

  3. A pre-natal vitamin. You can get them without a prescription at most grocery stores and drug stores.
