Is there still hope in this world?

People are becoming more and more materialistic and concerned about their own self. Some people are friends only because of selfish reasons or as long as the one they call their "friend" is useful to them, when in reality, they don't care at all. Why is it like this?

Yes, there is still hope, faith and kindness. Kindness promotes hope and hope regains faith in others. Putting oneself in a positive light helps draw positive people. (this is something I truly believe in)

there are people who are selfless.  evil cannot exist without good.   it is a matter of human choice.   what do you choose?  even if you are the only one?

Yes, there is still hope.  People are people and they have good and bad nature. Has been like that from the beginning of time. A study of history. literature (including various holy books) will demonstrate that. Like the saying goes, you can't stop birds from flying overhead, but you can prevent them from making a nest in your hair. Just because others are materialistic and selfish doesn't mean it has to affect you or change the way you look at things.

Its our egos. Our egos are there to protect us. So we put ourselves first before anyone else. Its easier to do this because it makes us feel good. Rather than going out of our way to help someone else, we focus on ourselves.

people are materialistic because thats what they see from a young age.

because as humans we are top of the food chain and therefore must be our own worst enemy. we are the only ones that can destroy us. there is still hope in this world. with ever child that is born there is a bit of hope that they will do better than we have. every time a person says" no i will not continue this destructive behavior" there is hope. sometimes hope is all we have.
