Is there still no direct route from New York to Sydney? What is the best route, how long does it take?

The capital of Australia is Canberra, and that's not far from Sydney.. Or it could be best to go directly to Brisbane in QLd, then straight to Sydney from there.

If that doesn't work out for you, it's probably just as good to go straight to Melbourne, then to Sydney..

Either way, you're going to get to see awesome cities and s**y people ;-)

I don't think any passenger plane has ever had the range to do Sydney --> NY in one hop.  The flight from the West Coast of the USA to Sydney takes around 14 hours.  That is a direct flight, and there are flights from Los Angeles and San Francisco.  Flights from NY to the West Coast take around 4?? hours.  Add those together, plus a couple of hours or more faffing around with customs and security.  Total time if all your connections line up would be around 20 hours.
