  1. All I ever wanted was tomorrows Wall Street Journal. If you find anybody that can accurately predict the future, please send him my way.

  2. It all depends upon who you ask. If you really want it bad enough, then continue with your program. Shortage or not, get ready for your chance at the brass ring.

Personally, I've been hearing of rumors of a "coming pilot shortage" for years and haven't ever seen evidence of it.

  3. in india ders not much f a shortage now...it has already becum slightly difficult for CPL licence holders 2 get jobs in airlines so be aware.

  4. Shortage or not--doesn't matter.  If you want to fly you will fly.

  5. I don't think so. I hope not!

The industry has seemed to pick itself back up again after 9/11.

As long as there are passengers on flights, there will always be pilots flying the aircraft. It gives the passengers a sense of security and makes them feel safe.

  6. I am busy doing my PPL (private pilot license) and I've been told that there is plenty of work for pilots. Well, not in my country... I'm from RSA. and SAA( South African Airways) does not take ANY white pilots. Bcos of BEE (Black Economical Empowerment). But in other countries there should not be a problem.

  7. The air travel industry is notoriously unpredictable, since it can be influenced by so many external factors over which it has no control: fuel prices, shifts in business practices and tourism, disasters such as 9/11, and so on.  While the current worldwide demand for pilots seems to be increasing today, it's hard to say how long that trend will last—even predicting a few years in advance is risky.

However, deciding to fly for a living is, or should be, a choice based largely on personal preference rather than economic factors.  There are lots of ways to make money in the world, and if all you want is a steady job, there are far easier and more rational ways to get a job than by training to be a pilot.  On the other hand, if you love to fly, then becoming a pilot is a natural choice, and changing economic winds really aren't important, as there will always be flying jobs out there for people who truly love to fly.  They may not always get rich, but they'll be flying, and for many pilots who live to fly, that's all that really matters.

So, if you would really love to fly every day, become a pilot.  If all you want is a secure job, look elsewhere, as training to be a pilot just for the sake of earning a paycheck is a lot more time and trouble than it is worth.

  8. In the US the industry has changed a lot.  This is causing less people to stay in the Field.  It used to be you had a good chance of making it to the majors airlines, make high pay for short hours, and have a large retirement package.  This has changed a lot since Sept 11th happened.  I have seen a lot of good pilots leave the Field all together because of the lack of possible advancement into the majors.  Because of the changes there will be a pilot shortage for lot of years still.
