my bf bought a gun and it is really old, like 1906 or something. It is a Winchester 22 rifle. But it takes some kind of weird kind of shell. They were kind of expensive so I was gonna get him some for his bday. But I cant find them, does anyone have a clue about this???

I am thinking they were called like a 22 wac or something???

  1. probably the 22 winchester automatic cartridge(22wac). The gun was obsolete by 1932 and winchester stopped making ammo in the 1970s.

    vangion has the info right.

  2. Well if they made a gun chambered for that there has to be some somewhere.

  3. 22 Winchester Auto Cartridge

    Or

    22 Auto

IT is an obsolete cartridge used only in that gun

  4. (Q. is there such a thing as a .22 wac?

    (A. Yes. In 1903 Winchester manufactured a .22 rifle using a custom designed .22 rimfire round, the .22 Winchester Automatic. They did this explicitly so the gun would not accept a .22 LR round because some .22 LR ammunition was loaded with blackpowder and semi-smokeless powder which would foul the gun and cause mechanical problems. So Winchester basically made a round using smokeless powder explicitly for the model 1903 rifle. However it was more expensive than conventional .22 ammunition and never caught on. That's why the gun and ammunition was discontinued.

If you're simply interested in finding the ammo, check Old Western Scrounger.
