Is there such a thing as a DAYTIME routine for an 8 week old?

If so, my little princess hasn't received the memo about it (can't complain as she is a great night sleeper)

Can I encourage a routine from now? If so can you give me specifics on it, like what time I should encourage sleep after she shows tired signs etc

What can I expect in terms of naps (the most she has ever slept after the age of 3 weeks is two and half hours in one go during the day - 7 hours at night)

Please DONT respond with night time routines (odd I know) but she implemented one on her own that I'm happy with

  1. At 8 weeks, I do not think it is to early to implement a daily routine for her.

My girl was a very shallow and extremely short sleeper, only sleeping 30 minutes 2-3 times a day during the day at that age.

YET, at 8 weeks Routines completely yo-yo. When the are around 5 months its slowly sets in alot more and continue to stablize with one certain routine.

    For example,

    When awakes in morning....

    * Bottle/breast, Nappy change,

*Play for 1 or so hours

*Nap time (IMPLEMENT MUSIC)  One certain lulaby EVERY time they go for sleep time, including bedtime.

    *Bottle/breast when awakes

    *Play time and so on.

Basically I stablized my childs routine by having this pattern.

Bottle, Nappy, Play, Sleep, bottle, nappy, play, sleep ect ect...

Basically if you are not sure wheather to put her down after showing tired signs, I bought in a mink blanket and a dummy ONLY for sleep, and music, only the same lulaby every time.

Like I said, at 8 weeks it is ALL over the place, but try continue this and eventually it will stablize as she gets older.

  2. My daughter was the same when she was younger i jusy kept putting her down and resettling her when she woke before sleeping for longer than an hour some days she would go back to sleep some days not but it seems to have worked becasue now at 10 months she sleepd 1.5 - 2.5 hours in the morning 1-1.5 hours in the afternoon and 9 - 13 hours at night....i think just being consistant is the key to it, not necessarily clock watching but doing the same thing everytime you put her down......good luck

  3. not really such a thing but at 8 weeks it suposedly is 3 hrs down, one hour up. But everychild is different. Here is a good site to look at. It is the place I went to for help with sleep

  4. I don't think you can put such a young baby on a daytime schedule...

  5. I think the key is to do some research on watching for tired signs.....also, feed/play/sleep routine is a good one. At that age, its not unusual for a baby to be awake for a maximum of only 1 hour, including the feed. As I said, do some research through your mothers group and/or child health nurse about tired signs and I'm sure things will settle soon!
