Is there such a thing as a VCR that records on VHS tapes from a digital TV receiver?

I have purchased the DTV boxes to convert my analog televisions to digital. Now my VCRs won't record the signals. I would prefer not to go to DVD's as I can't find any with a longer recording time than 2 hours - not much help to someone working most of the time and wanting to record all the missed programs!!

  1. First of all, I wouldn't know why a vcr wouldn't record the signal. Second of all, you should just get cable with a DVR. You can record over 100 hours with no tapes or discs and can still dub it over to a VHS tape or recordable DVD.

  2. There is no reason the VCR shouldn't record video from a converter box.  Here are a few things to check:

    1. Is the converter box picking up a signal in the first place?  Try connecting it directly to a TV to see if you are getting video out of the converter.  If not, that is the first thing to correct.  Remember, if a digital receiver doesn't get enough signal, it will look like nothing is there.

    2. How is the converter connected to the VCR?  If it is connected to the Antenna port, the VCR must be tuned to the same channel the converter box is outputting.  This is usually channel 3 or 4.  If you are connecting to the Video inputs of the VCR, you must make sure that input is selected to record.

You can test your set up afterward by connecting the VCR to a TV.  The TV must be tuned to the same channel the VCR is outputting; usually channel 3 or 4.  Make sure the VCR is turned on, the TV/VCR switch is set to TV and that there is no tape in the machine.  You should be able to see the converter box video through the VCR on the TV.

I hope this helps.  Please return and select a Best Answer from all of those submitted.
