Question:

Is there such a thing as a coaxial to RCA adapter?

Here's the situation:

We have a television that is rather old, and the only inputs it has is 1 coax-in and one mono RCA-in. We have a rather spiffy set of speakers that we would like to patch tv audio to, however these speakers are RCA.

Here's the question:

Is there any sort of adapter or converter that we could attach to the coax cable to turn it into an RCA setup? That way, we could send the audio portion to the speakers, and the video portion to the tv. If such an adapter does exist, where can we purchase it?

Thanks in advance for the help!

  1. a VCR would easily do this, just get one that has a TV tuner in it. the only problem is that you would use the VCR to change stations not the TV (the TV would most likely just be used for video). and they are so cheap now, you could go to a thrift store a pick one up for $5. After that the VCR will output audio and video on RCA plugs, put the red and white to your spiffy audio setup and take the yellow to the back of the TV (also you could use the coax to hook your TV back up)

  2. Yes, Wal-Mart, Target all have what you are asking about.  It is called a RF Modulator.  It converts from Coax to RCA.  But speakers don't usually connect with RCA jacks.  More info would be needed to specifically tell you this would work.
