I think it might be called an automatic mountain bike. I am not for sure.My friend told me about it I think she said it was a peter Glenn. When I mentioned it to my boyfriend he made fun of me and acted like I was stupid. Is there a bike that does this ? Anybody have link to a website that sells them.

  1. Yeah, it uses weights and centripetal force to switch gears (they have other systems too) .

  2. Yes there are bikes that shift themselves. But if you are able to work the complicated machine that is the computer, you can handle shifters.

Most autoshifters are S****y machines that are inferior and heavier compared to similarly priced models.  There are some "new" versions out as well that do not use the old "sliders" on the spokes method to shift, but even they are not easy to ride, nor is the shifting seamless or fun.

I have actually RIDDEN the new autoshifters and can say that the weirdest part is when you coast on the big downhills the shifter thinks you need a bigger gear and when you start to pedal again there is a big CLUNK and slippage while the shifting gets into the real gear you need. This results in wasted energy and difficulty controlling the machine at best, and at worst, a crash.

Find a nice bike with shifters that work and practice with them. You'll be a better rider, and you'll have a better bike.

  3. it sounds like you have boyfriend and bike relationships problems judging by your other question.

  4. If your boyfriend made fun of you 'cause he thought they didn't exist, he's is wrong.

If your boyfriend made fun of you 'cause he thought they are a POS he's right.

EDIT: Yes the auto shift bikes are lower quality bikes and the auto shift isn't a very good idea. It does work but not well and the bikes are over-priced.

  5. Giant, Raleigh, and Trek all make self-shifting bikes. It's described as a 'chip-controlled gear shift system'. Try Shopzilla.com/mountain.

  6. Yeah it comes from Land Rider Bike. You can purchase it here:
