  1. Yes.  A corporation is just a legal entity that is considered a person under the law.  Many churches have incorporated so that a law suit won't leave the members under a bridge.  Most co-operatives or credit unions are corporations.  The problem is that for profit corporations are owned by their share holders, and that these shares are financial investments.  The board of a corporation is legally bound to act in the interests of its share holders, and the courts have construed this very narrowly to mean, that unless instructed otherwise by their share holders, this is to mean the financial interests of share holders.  It would be illegal for a for-profit corporation, whose share holders didn't tell it to be responsible first, not to be greedy.
