I have heard that VAIS's are pretty good. Any other advise/opinions? Thanks.

  1. A muzzle brake, has nothing to do with suppressing the sound of a firearm. It is used to control the felt recoil by directing some of the escaping gasses backwards just like a retro rocket. A "suppressor" will lower the sound of a firearm, but there is no such thing as a "silencer". (except in Hollywood)

    shoot safe

  2. there is really no such thing as a truly silent muzzle break. Fact of the matter is, most just make the sound go in a different direction. I would suggest just making a silencer and getting a tax stamp for it so its legal

  3. Just some details here. All silencers (Maxim devices, legal term) work by routing some of the blast gasses into muffling arrangements. By changing the direction of the gasses in a component vector back from the bullet's path, these gasses bear forward on the hardware to some degree, holding back some of the recoil forces. So all silencers are also muzzle brakes to some degree. Regards, Larry.

  4. Not that I am aware of.  They seem to increase the blast which is one reason I don't use them myself.

  5. Muzzle brakes make the report louder

    Suppressors make the report quieter

    They are not interchangeable

The VAIS is designed so that the increase in noise is not as great but it does not silence the normal report of the gun
