  1. I take it what you are asking for is wire in which the resistance goes up as the current goes up. All the metals I know of behave in the opposite manner. Otherwise I think you have to use a current limiting circuit. I'm going to star this one to see if anybody else knows of another way to do it. Might be able to do something clever with mercury, where the heat of the current causes it to expand and spill the excess into another channel also conducting to go back to the first so the level is self regulating. Or, vaporize it and condense it to flow back in.

If you can think of a way to do that then any molten metal might be able to be made to work.

  2. No, no such thing, unless you are referring to a fuse, which limits current by opening.

  3. you can buy a thermistor connected to the circuit, get it from any electronic supplier where you can get diodes or resistors probably in a nearby radio shack.

thermistor is used as current limiting device, when large amount of current flow, the thermistor heat up and increase the resistance, thus decreases the current flow

  4. A current limiting wire is also known as a fuse. When the current goes above a certain level the wire burns out, stopping the flow of electricity.

You can also limit the current by using either resistors or variable resistors.
