Is there such a thing as the Omaken tribe?

Question

From New Zealand? I met someone who claims to be from there and I can't find anything about Omakens, Omaka, etc...

Can someone set me straight?

Omaka Is a place In New Zealand. But I have never heard of omakens. I have lived In New Zealand all my 31 years.

I live in Marlborough where there is a small place called Omaka. There is a marae there, but I am pretty sure there is no tribe/iwi called Omaka.....I know some people live on the marae site and other people live in the area.

Its also possilbe that there are other places called Omaka around Nz, but not sure where they are.

well I haven't heard of it and I'm a kiwi so I guess either they were pulling your leg or perhaps you didn't hear the pronounciation correctly.  Perhaps gets them to right it down?
