such as roller coasters, is there enough technological smarts out there to build something so grand and yet completely and totaly SAFE and error-prone ?

call me a big chicken S**t, but it always lingers on the back of my mind - the roller coaster 'jamming' upside down at w/e feet, and tiny ppl below awe struck and pointing up at you. Then the sounds of twisting metal followed by panic ridden cries for help, followed by a shocking descent back down to earth. heh.

  1. NO, there is nothing "flawless" in this world..

However, you shouldn't be scared, because thousands of people ride those things at theme parks a day... and accidents are rare.  The odds are on your side...       You should be more afraid of riding in a car.

  2. absolutely not. if you ride one prepare to die a horrible death.

  3. I don't think any rides are flawless.

  4. No, human technology is never perfect. In the subject of roller coaster rides, the risk of the ride malfunctioning may be small, unless the park does not test the ride to ensure safety. Your story there will probably never happen. Today's roller coasters are sturdy enough with safety measures to render that almost impossible.

Long story short: you will never die from theme park rides. (unless you have a serious physical condition)

  5. Of coarse not!

  6. lol, you wish

  7. everytime i get on a ride...i always think 'thats it, i'm going to die'. i'm sooooooo scared of them but my friends always egg me to go on. i end up going on it but regret it bad after!

  8. sod's law, if it can go wrong it will go wrong, so NO is the answer to your question

  9. you've watched final destination way too many times.

there is nothing perfect in this world.

and if something can go wrong, then everything can go wrong.

    be petrified!

  10. I don't think there is a 100% anything when a human is involved.  Especially when technology is involved.

  11. I am always very wary of fairground rides etc. I never get on them.

  12. like with everything there is always a percentage of uncertainty. however, roller coasters are just large physics machines and with most experiments a certain level of uncertainty or flaw is allowed however, since human life is the thing at risk the uncertainty would be very low say around 2%. In most experiments uncertainty values would be around say 5%.  In a roller coaster 2% would still be a high number but I tend to overestimate honestly though I wouldn't worry if you ride the roller coaster properly [like buckling up and what not]. also most theme parks check their roller coasters everyday to make sure that everything is in working order. I say have fun and don't stress.
