  1. Urban myth with no basis in reality

  2. Ice bullets are for movies and the television show "Mythbusters".

They're not available through normal retail venues.

  3. #1 nope, it just won't happen. Ice is too brittle, even strengthened pykrite or whatever it is called.  Ice would shatter at speeds no-where near the speed of sound.

#2 nope, lets say ice didn't melt from the gunpowder burning.  Ice is very light. At whatever velicty it left the barrel, it would QUICKLY decelerate due to air resistance.  Think of it like throwing a ping-pong ball rather than throwing a golf ball.

#3 nope, ice is very light in comparison to lead.  This means to have enough power to kill a man, the bullet would either need to be huge, or it would need to go very very very very very fast.  10 times faster than a normal bullet.  We don't have guns that can fire normal bullets that fast.  What would happen is the gun would fire the ice bullet at just a little bit faster than a normal bullet, but mainly just shoot out still burning gunpowder in a tremendous big fireball.

All the above also hold true for shooting an ice-bullet out of an air gun.  Ice is just too brittle, and too light, and we don't have airguns that can get a projectile anywhere near as fast as 10X as fast as a regular lead bullet.   Think about half as fast as a normal gun if you use air rather than gunpowder.

Same holds true of a 'frozen meat bullet', too light to do much damage except at extreme speed, (and we lack the the to get it go go that fast), too light to maintain even normal bullet speeds outside of the barrel, and too brittle.

Look, you want to assassinate someone with ice, your best bet is to stab em with an ice-cycle.

You want to assassinate someone with ice from a distance, you better build a trebuchet that can launch watermelon sized ice-balls.

  4. Sorry pal, no cigar. The heat and pressure would melt this imaginary round before it ever left the barrel.

If you want untraceable, get ready for the good news: Shotgun shells leave no rifling marks.

    No rifling marks=No trace

  5. No, it is a myth.  The shock and hjeat of teh gun powder going off will destroy an ice bullet.  If the bore is rifled, the bullet will spoin so fast that it will fly apart.  Nope, the old ice bullet story has been around for years and it is a load of c**p.

  6. nope.  people have tried, as it's one of the conspiracy theories as to how jfk died.  however, you can't make a bullet that is cold enough that it won't melt/evaporate when fired, but not so cold that it will freeze everything and render the gun useless.  but i hope people keep looking for it cause that sounds awesome.

  7. mythbusters tried it but they couldnt even get it out of the mold at the range. then they used a frozen meat bullet and it didnt work past 5 feet

  8. Mythbusters had a pretty good go at it, with no success, now an ice spear might be possible.

Actually, they didn't try an airgun - it stands to reason that the charge in a bullet would melt the ice, but an airgun would not be as hot.

  9. No, there is no bullets made out of ice, yet.

  10. NO, even an airgun that is powerful enough to kill will get to hot (they burn the oil up which provides about 30% of muzzle energy).

  11. hopefully if star wars is right we will be shooting lasers in the future....dayum..
