I am running one 50ft cat5 cable down the hall from the modem, to my computer and xbox 360. Every time i switch from xbox to computer, i have to switch the cable back and fourth. I was wondering if there was such a thing that i could plug the end of the 50ft cat5 cable into and then run two seperate cat5 cables out of it?

Anybody Know?

  1. yes

simplest form is called a hub

cheapest way usually is to buy a router on sale

One in (wan)  4 ports out

  2. that would be what you call a hub, which you could barely find these days. try using a switch though..

    good luck!

  3. I like "ddouble" answer. But I want to add. Don't get a hub or a switch. They suck. Its no wonder they are hard to find. You can get a router for around the same price as a switch. A router will give you a faster network connection; whereas, a hub will s***w with your connection speed.

  4. Generally, a "cat5 splitter" would be considered an ethernet hub or a switch of some kind.  But in this case, it sounds like you're actually looking for a router to set up a small network.  The reason for this is the cable coming from your modem only has one ip address connected to it, and you're going to need two; one for your xbox, and one for your computer.

You can pick up a linksys or netgear router relatively cheaply at any number of electronic stores like Best Buy.
