Is there such thing as a fraternity that doesn't drink?

I'm going to be a third-year student at my state college (CSULB). My girlfriend complains that I don't have any friends, and would like to see me get involved with some form of a campus organization. I don't mind the whole fraternity philosophies of brotherhood and all that, but I have a problem with drinking.

Alcoholism runs in my family, as well as I have experienced a death of a friend from alcohol poisoning. I am very adamant about drinking. I have an addictive personality, and do not want to risk going down a bad path.

So with that said, I do not want to drink and I would prefer to join a fraternity above a club. Is there such a thing as a fraternity that doesn't drink, or doesn't drink much?

Thanks for your help!

  1. May i remind you of animal house?

  2. Do not join a frat. The people you will meet there are just a bunch of douches. If you want to meet people you should take up an activity that can improve your over all well being, and allow you to take part in activity you enjoy. Golfers make friends golfing, Surfers make friends with surfers, musicians make friends with musicians, and if you take up an activity like I mentioned you would make friends, improve yourself, and get to choose an activity that you enjoy.

My real concern is that you might actually have friends, but your girlfriend just wants a popular boyfriend. Of course, she might be right and just wants to help you open up your social circle. Just take time to think about if she might not like your current friends, or maybe she is obsessed with having a popular perfect boyfriend because some women will do that.

  3. If your school offers it BYX is a great Christian fraternity that is generally sober.  You will always have a few people who will do what they will, but every group of "bux" guys I know (from a few different schools) stay away from drinking and drugs.

I love that you choose not to drink.  It is great to hear.
