Yes there is, usually people order birds bred for show before entering a bird to show but there also is a novice category for beginners(bird has to be close banded), the second link below gives info on a show in California in November this gives you time to look into this particular societies rules and regulations and if you can enter your bird. You will have to contact them(contact info provided in the link) and ask. I know a lot of show people here in Va. but not in Cali. What I do know about the show bird culture is that it can be fun but competitive...mostly fun from my experiences you meet a lot of people who love to teach "newbies" everything they know about how to show birds and who breeds the best quality show birds for exhibition.
