Question:

Is there such thing as a "no refund'?

I bought two boxs of contact lenses from the local optics shop. I did not open the box, but I paid in full. I was given an extra pair to try and see if they fit. They didn't fit and I returned everything the next day. I had accidentally disposed of the receipt as proof of purchase but the optician recognizes me. He said due to "auditing" purposes, he can't give me money back, I can only swap with another product. Thing is, I do not need anything else from that shop! Its so ridiculous that I paid for nothing. How can I demand for a refund?

  1. No refund w/out a receipt is pretty standard procedure, I don't know the legal ramifications of it...  Why don't you get store credit, and you can use that later when you need something else.

  2. If you cannot work it out with the store then the next step is small claims. It sounds to me like they do not have the money to refund if indeed it was only one day, the package was unopened and they remember you. The audit thing is a ridiculous excuse and one that will not hold up in small claims court. Try and find the receipt if you can but either way document everything and file a case. If the amount is under $50 I would most likely look at it as a lesson learned and move on.

If the store is a chain then contact the corporate office and explain the problem, if they are reputable company you should have no problem getting a fefund.
