there's this girl in my health class who claims herself to be vegetarian, but she eats chicken. She just doesnt eat red meat, though. is she ACTUALLY a vegetarian, or does eating poultry make her not?

I'm a vegetarian and i thought i would be alone. when she said she was too, i thought i wasnt alone anymore, but when she said she eats chicken, i felt alone again

  1. By definition, no there isn't.

Some people call themselves vegetarian even though they eat poultry (and fish and sea food).  They are not really vegetarians

  2. No. Vegetarians don't eat animal flesh.

  3. Vegetarians do not eat animals so no..she is not vegetarian.

  4. No she is not vegetarian. Vegetarian is someone who eats everything but animals/meats

  5. She's not a vegetarian at all.

But there are tons of people out there who only eat veggies, chicken and seafood and dairy and never any pork, beef or veal.  I have a few of them in my family - but they don't call themselves vegetarians.

  6. She's not a vegetarian.  The term for her is "hypocrite".

  7. She's not a vegetarian because she eats dead animals.  She's just a person who doesn't eat red meat.  If she's eating chicken every time she used to eat beef, she's actually killing more animals for her diet than she used to (because chickens are smaller so it takes more of them to feed a person.)

You're not alone; there are millions of us!  If you don't know any in real life, see if you can find a vegetarian online community where you can chat with and maybe even plan meet-ups with other vegetarians.  I have belonged to a vegan forum for about a year and have met about 50 vegans in person via that forum (as opposed to the zero vegans I knew before.)  A few have become good friends.

  8. By definition of the word vegetarian, it's a person who eats vegetables.  She can call herself whatever she wants, but it's just not accurate.  Don't argue with her;  she's obviously someone who calls herself vegetarian because she thinks it's trendy, and not because of her own moral values.....
