  1. I would have agreed with your friend, but I guess it depends on what you mean by "cow"

    Horns Aplenty

Wild cattle are larger members of the Bovidae family, a scientific grouping that also includes antelope, goats, and sheep.

There are 12 species of Wild Cattle (tribe Bovini) in the world but several have either been entirely domesticated or else hunted to extinction. Domestic cows Bos primigenius exist in the billions but their wild ancestors died out by 1627. The American Bison.....

Until the sixteenth century, 12 species of wild cattle were distributed across Asia, Europe, Africa and North America. Today, there remain only 10 species that are restricted to tiny, fragmented populations in a few countries. Increasing human populations have encroached upon wild cattle habitat and all extant species are threatened by human activities. ...... The ancestor of most of the domestic cows, the Auroch (Bos primigenus) was extinct by 1627.......

  2. No....  A cow is only a female cattle, moose, horse, ect. But there are wild cattle

  3. No. Cows were demesticated thounsands of years ago, and cannot be found in the wild. It's probably because they don't have protection from preditors in the wild.

  4. Technically, the American Bison is a wild cow.  They are a member of the Bovidae family, which includes all domestic cattle.

I know that there are herds of feral (non-native) horses in the US, but I am not aware of any known feral cattle.

  5. yes my ex wife was a wild cow!

  6. If you mean cow as in domestic cattle, no. Cattle are the descendants of the aurochs, a huge bovid which is now extinct.

However, there are many animals related to cattle, in the family Bovidae, in the wild - American bison, African buffalo, numerous species of antelope, etc.

Also, the word 'cow' is used for the females of many species, including elephants, whales and moose.

In response to Emjohnson97's answer, a female horse is called a mare, not a cow.

  7. no
