Question:

Is there such thing as an HDMI to Composite Adapter?

I have a new Dell M1330 with HDMI out, and would like to connect it to my Pioneer AV receiver, but the receiver only has composite and RCA inputs. I've found Composite to HDMI adapters, but not the reverse. Will they work in reverse, and if not, how can I best stream video out of my laptop to my TV?

  1. Composite is analog.  HDMI is digital.  They don't communicate.  SO the answer is no.  Is there a different video out on the Dell?

  2. I suspect you mean Component (not composite). The latter should be no problem from HDMI (since composite is not HD) or you could do VGA>>composite or S-video.

The link below is to an HDMi>> component converter ... BUT note the device is "HDCP compliant: When input is HDCP encrypted (protected) the component/RGB out will be turned off."

This (probably) isn't a problem for your computer source, but if concerned check with the company before buying.

  3. actually it is illegal to try and covert between hdmi back to component. it would require stripping the digital encyrption from the hdmi signal to downconvert... my only recomendation would be a different video card
