Is there such thing as my friend mailing me $5,000 money order and being able to cash it in for cash?

If so can I cash it in at any place that have money order?

  1. Money orders are essentially the same as cash since it is required that the funds be prepaid for the amount shown on it, it is a more trusted method of payment than a personal check.

    There are lots of attempts at fraud with money orders out there, so I suggest you really think about the situation. Why is your "friend" sending you so much money, and if they have so much money, why can't they just send you a personal check? Some attempts at fraud involve one person sending you a fake check or money order, you cashing it, and sending them a portion of the cash. When you are caught doing this, you go to jail since you cashed the fake, while the other party just gets the cash.

    Beware of so called "Friends" sending counterfeit money orders and cashier's checks.

  4. if your friend can get a postal money order, which is sold at post office, you can cash it at the post office.  Just show your id.
