Im looking to buy a laptop, i've got it down to two, both under $550. One is $100 cheaper and has a 1.6GHz processor, the more expensive one has a 2.0Ghz. Is there a big difference? Could the 1.6GHz handle windows vista home premium ok? Or should i pay more to get the 2Ghz?

  1. most programs require a 2GHz's processor and and intel core 2 duo processor(especially if your using windows vista since its slow and glitchy). You should look into apple's macbook's, there products are much better than windows PC's.

  2. Well, gigahertz isn't the only factor when computing speed of a processor. It also depends on the architecture, nm and cache size. Like a 3.0GHz, dual core of the Pentium 4 series, ranges from the 90nm-65nm (lower is better). A 2.0GHz, dual core of the Core 2 duo series (65nm-40nm) will always be faster no matter what.

  3. If you are going to run Windows Vista you better go with 2Ghz. And remember Vista likes to have 2 gig memory.
