  1. Boxing is a martial art, just to get that out of the way.

The physical aspect of boxing, at high levels, I feel requires much more discipline than so called "traditional" arts. There are very few fat boxers, but I've seen many black belts with guts the size of kegs, and with questionable stamina to boot. Boxers need to constantly train to keep their bodies at peak performance, and so they need to watch exactly what they eat, and run like h**l.

Mentally and spiritually, it depends I guess. Whoever tells you boxing is not a mental sport is a bold faced liar and should go back to pre-school. Boxing is physical chess, and you need to have a strong, focused, confident mind to perform to the best of your ability. Any doubt, and you will be eaten alive. Other martial arts also recognize this - you need to be mentally strong to be able to use your physical strength.

If you must have a succinct answer, I'd give it to boxing, and say it requires the most discipline at the highest levels. Some boxers run marathons every morning, starve themselves, and still have to be able to spar and work out day in and day out. They have to be mentally able to cope with the fact that once they are in the ring, it is a battle to win, not just a battle to defend.

  2. Martial Arts has more discipline.

  3. boxing

  4. Depends on the practitioner.

  5. They both require discipline to succeed. How much you are willing to discipline yourself, will affect how successful you are in either  sport!

One doesn't necessarily require more than the other.

  6. Take up Kickboxing and get the best of both worlds...
