I understand Georgia has MIG 25 interceptors. Did they risk these against a modern Russian air force of SU 27s and MiG 29s? I'm sure Russia would have pre planned this event and know the insides and outs of the ex-Soviet potential Georgian interceptors. Would Georgia risk losses or would they just give up on an air war and concentrate its air force back deep into Georgian territory?

  1. from what i heard and read, there were two georgian planes taken down, but it was the ossetian forces who did it :)

  2. By Georgian side there was not any air engagements over S. Ossetia. After that Georgia token control over Tskhinvali, Russian air forces has started a huge air operation over Tskhinvali and Georgian army. Then they have engaged another regions far away from South Ossetia. This regions are: Batumi, Poti, Senaki and capital of Georgia Tbilisi.

  3. No air to air, but one russian fighter downed,

  4. There is no Mig 25 in Georgian Army. Only ground-attack aircraft SU 25.

  5. Marina S is a Russian propaganda spy!

  6. no there were just air to ground attacks

  7. People of the world. You deceive! World mass media conduct propagation of a false information. Russia DID NOT ATTACK Georgia! 07.08.2008 at 22:00 Georgia has attacked South Ossetia. At 3:30 08.08.2008 tanks of the Georgian armies have entered into city Tskhinvali. Artillery bombardment all the day long proceeded, fights with use of tanks and heavy combat material, both against ossetic armies, and against peace inhabitants were conducted. 2000 civil people already were lost. The Russian peacemakers have arrived to South Ossetia in the evening 08.08.2008 for settlement of the conflict and prompting of the world in republic and protection of the Russian citizens living on territory of South Ossetia. Georgia has attacked South Ossetia on eve of Olympiad, it is top of cruelty and cynicism. 8. Georgian forces had Stingers ( and upgradet versions of it ) they had some SAM Launcher System ( high altitude ) too but those systems integrated at the main cities ( mostly )

.. they had some moveable defence launchers too

.. and carried by a Army Type Landrover ( efficient & cheap )

thats why russian air forces worry to loose some power at georgian air space cuz very hart to eleminate those flexible mobile systems.

Especially low altitude flight shout be pretty dangerous at this period imho. ( If u don't have right IFF code ofc )
