  1. I think it is a good possibility, stylewise, he is the most dangerous threat to St. Pierre, the most obvious way to beat GSP is to knock him out, and Alves is a potent striker, also he showed he possesed good takedown defense and ground and pound defense, a style that nuetralizes St Pierre's best weapons (Hughes takedowns not on the same level as GSP's though, so I reserve judgement.) I believe if he can stay on his feet he will eventually catch GSP and finish him. Pound for pound he is one of the best fighters at welterweight in my opinion.

  2. yah hes d**n good... he beet matt hughes

  3. No, he won't beat GSP. Don't get me wrong, this guys good, but not gonna be the new king at 170 till GSP gets past 36. That's just my opinion lol.

  4. Thiago Alves has a long way to go if he wants to be king at 170.  For starters he needs to make weight, he didn't make weight against Matt Hughes and has had problems before with making weight, he was suspended for using diuretics.

I give him credit for beating Hughes and Parisyan but he lost to Jon Fitch (by TKO), and Spencer Fisher (by Triangle Choke.)  And he still needs to face the top two contenders at 170 (Koscheck, Sanchez.)

I think if he can make weight and beat Koscheck, Sanchez, and fight Fitch in a rematch then he might be considered as a top contender and meet GSP for the crown.  Until then GSP is the man to beat at 170...

  5. No way.  He has a long way to go.  GSP and Fitch would own him.  Sanchez probably, too.

  6. if matt serra hadnt laid the mother of all reality checks on GSP i think the ptibull might have been the guy to dethrone him.

i dont think GSP will ever take an opponent lightly again.

as far as the style matchup, if GSP is losing the standup to alves, he can always take the alves down and work on the mat.

if GSP can put josh koscheck on his back, i think he can put any 170 pounder in the world on their back.

GSP is young and motivated and diverse.  he could well be the champion for a long time.

alves is real good.  i would like to see how he would fare against koscheck, who has by far the best amatuer wrestling credentials at the weight class.

  7. GSP is the top 170 and will stay that way for several years.  It would be a great fight to watch.  The pitbull has a history of drug abuse so how he handles his success is a major question mark.  He has the tools, but some bad influences.
