is thicker 10mm ordinary glass can hold more weight and stronger than 6mm tempered glass or is it the other way around?

I be using it as shelves for my display cabinet. Each shelf measures 1150x570mm (45x22inches). 4 rubberized pegs at all corners and have 2 supports at the middle of each shelf (but not long enought and only covers 50% of the glass width)

Im planning to place 10-12 figures weighing 700grams-1kilo (1.5-2.2lbs) on each shelf

if il use acrylic at 6mm; would it bend? I heard its stronger

thanks!

  1. glazier here go with the 3/8. much stronger.dont use acrylic it will bend as u said. tempered glass is stronger on the flat part but much weaker on the edge. plus  it will bend also, much to big for the size your using. 3/8 looks much better also

  2. tempering does not increase the strength of glass. it causes it to break into rounded edged pieces, rather than shattering into sharp pieces. it is a safety feature.

i stand corrected. on further research(which i should have done first), tempered glass is 4-5 times stronger than same thickness annealed glass. i always thought it was just a 'safety glass' treatment. go with Steve S recommendation.
