Question:

Is this 2 early 2 start training for cheerleading?

I can't do any flips and i am kinda flexible, but i used 2 do gymnastics but i think the flexiblity got away from me.haha

And its a yr before the cheerleading tryouts.

I know i can be 1 if i just try and try.

Do u think its 2 early for me 2 be training for it?

And cheerleaders, (if u are 1) can u tell me wat they expect?

Cuss im so scared that they won't let me in cuss i can't do all that fancy stuff like fliping.

But i do make up for it in other ways like i LUV dancing.I dance every single day.its truly my passion.

If i were u i would go on youtube and look at the teniques of ppls jumps and try and learn the teqnuices , but i dont think its tht late and but its not like u can inprove ur jumps in like 1 day so keep practicign and also go on youtube and look up cheers and dances and try to learn basic moves like high v..low v..touchdown..broken T..ect.


  2. It's never too early to start preparing. Tryouts for me were in June but i started last september. i've never cheered prior to tryouts but last september i joined a gymnastics class and worked on my tumbling. I also practiced jumps every week and by time tryouts came, i knew what to expect and i was prepared.

    Every school is different so if you know that everyone on your school's cheerleading squad has a back handspring, you should get your buttt to gymnastics and work on that. If not, you'll be at a huge disadvantage. However, if only a few people have back handsprings, you should try to get one anyway, this way it'll make up for the lack of experience you have.

    At tryouts, they will also expect you to have a decent toe-touch. So it in a straddle and stretch almost every day. DEFINITELy work on your toe-touch, it'll be an advantage if you have a really good one.

    Also, try getting together with someone you know is on cheerleading and have them tell show you some of the motions. If not, youtube cheer motions and learn some. Remember to stay tight, and really hit them.

    As for stutning, you don't have to be too worried. Its extremely easy to catch on. But if you can, get together with some people when tryouts are close, and practice basing, backing & flying to see which one suits you the best.

    And since you're a dancer, that's a huge advantage. So keep dancing and show the coach that you're devoted and can learn quickly.

My daughter has been in competitive cheerleading for 3 years now.  Her tumbling skills were at beginner level at the start and she still isn't up to the level of other girls....but cheerleading needs girls of all levels.  In comparison, our school level only requires girls to do a front somersault and a cart-wheel.  On the other hand, competitive cheerleading asks for girls to work toward doing their tumbling runs which includes, back hand-springs, front tucks and such.  Each girl works at their own level and each girl is used in the spots they are best suited for.  Not every girl can be a flyer but some can be very good bases.  Your best bet would be to work at home to be the best you an be and to keep that positive spirit that will translate into what cheer teams are looking for when you try out.  No coach wants a girl with a "I can't do that" attitude.  Dancing has become a big part of cheerleading and to be able to learn and retain dance steps is so important.  If you have the dancing part down, then you can concentrate on the tumbling.  Your coaches should be more than willing to help you attain these goals, if you have the "can-do" attitude.
