Question:

Is this BMX race bike too heavy?

I am just getting into it now after doing motocross, I am 5 ft 11 so I need a bike pro XL with around a 21TT size (big bike!)

I've found a few bikes, one is 24.75lbs where as others are say 19lbs (the lightest around)

I want the bike to be good enough to do everything I want on it, and want NO hinderences (such as weight problems with the bike)

So what i'm asking is this...does it really make any difference between those 2 weights? I am a bodybuilder but am still quite light really but am very strong, so will this make any difference to me or hinder my performance in any way or is it always best to go for the lightest bike u can find? ta

  1. no its not to heavy

  2. not at all. a lot of steel mountain bikes are on average 30 lbs.

  3. no not really. if your looking for a lot of speed and be able to get farther in the air i'd go with a light bike so thats probably a good weight for you. i race also and i have a haro SR 1.0 from 2004 and that thing can fly when im on it and it's about that same weight.

i suggest looking at haro SR series bikes if your looking for a good racing bike for what your doing.

  4. Put it this way, even at say 175 lbs, you outweigh the bike by 7 times, not the other way around. If you were a pro, or semi-pro, then maybe the weight would make a difference as it will affect your endurance after a full day. But for the average rider 25# is just fine.
