Question:

Is this Defamation? ?

One of my friends got in trouble because he was caught with drugs by his mom. She told another mom that I was doing drugs and now she doesn't allow my friend to associate with me. I believe this information was being spread around to other parents. I don't do any kind of drugs and she had no right to say that about me. Is this defamation or something else? Can I do anything about it?

  1. Yes, it is slander per se meaning that the law presumes you were defamed because her statements were of the character falsely accusing you of being a criminal.  Sue her if you will but how much do you think you will get.  If she retracts her statement then she can be exonerated.

  2. No, defamation is when a statement hurts your stand on society, for example if somone says you're an ex-convict and you don't get hired for a job because of that statement
