'Man on the street' is offensive to women

The phrase "man on the street" should not be used in case it offends women, according to a politically-correct language guide for council staff.

  1. I always thought the term: "human" and all words and expressions that came from that word were to describe the human race aka men and women. The expression "man on the street" or "manning the phones" is to describe all people so how can some women be offended? It's pathetic. PC is over the top, my least best friend and should be banned with a capital B. I'm female and find the whole thing absurd and derogatory to us the general public. It's just a form of brainwashing and if you consult any decent guide to proper English, PC isn't correct anyway, so why do we use it? What a load of old c**p! We won't be able to speak soon if that brigade get their wicked way. Silly twats!

  2. Why would i find it offensive? What a load of BS.

  3. thats ridiculous!

  4. Ugh. Why can't these pathetic do-gooders do something worthwhile with their lives instead of wasting everyone's time with this BS?

  5. Yeah, the worlds gone mad.

Youre now frightened to open your mouth regarding:

    children

    old people

    genders

    ethnic minorities

    disabled

    the poor

I mean come on, get a life, no one has a perfect life, let us still have a sense of humour, and not be too quick to judge.

    Sick of the PC police!!!

  6. I find the phrase "man on the street" incredibly offensive.

    It is non -inclusive.

What about cul-de sacs, roads , avenues and lanes ...has anybody considered THEIR  feelings?

  7. One small step for people one giant leap for people kind.

I know someone who's surname is Pullman, does he have to change it to Pullperson, how about Personchester United. lol

  8. OMG!! what next????

  9. The really worrying thing is that people get paid good money to sit and come up with this rubbish.

Surely this is an area of council staffing that can be 'rationalised' without harm to public services.

  10. 'Man on the street' is a generic term, and has been in use for years without giving offence. Only those looking for trouble would disagree.

Whoever initiated this nonsense should hounded out of office and put in the stocks. Not surprised the Council Tax is exhorbitant, and the services cr-p.

What is worrying, however, is that some people, particularly employees of these centres of thought control, are persuaded that these crazy ideas have merit. These ideas nearly always start from within the public sector, then spread out. They then become the norm, and are then defended by people, including those who use this site.

  11. Sure.

    Why not?

    Look in the real world.

What do we expect from the I-Robot with A.I. on the loose?

    Luke 8.5-8,10-17

    What do you think?

  12. It certainly seems to be a stupid piece of guidance.

Is it now person on the street?

  13. Its the Telegraph. What do you expext - real news reports?

  14. LOLOLOL @ person hole covers!! Bloody ridiculous!

  15. Then they should make a sign for women.

    "women in the kitchen"

  16. Incredibly stupid, especially when you consider the fact that 'man' (of Old English derivation) originally referred to BOTH genders and basically just meant a person.

  17. One i've heard is - 'Baa,baa rainbow sheep,have you any wool......'etc!? Crazy people,crazy world.

  18. Seems okay to me. It's only giving guidance on how to be more respectful. You should learn from it instead of puerile ranting!

  19. Absolute rubbish I just love the person hole covers what a bunch of jokers these 'persons' are. I thought I would give you a few more to peruse.

  20. I wonder how long it will be before the PC brigade insist on referring to people as "hupeople" instead of "humans"?

Political "correctness" is becoming a misnomer. These days there is nothing correct about it at all. "Political stupidity" would be more apt.

  21. whats ur question

  22. Even man hole covers have been banned. Now its a person hole cover' It makes me wonder if these people have nothing better to do with their time . Political correctness gone mad..
