I'm Japanese living in Qatar.

Today I orderd Sukiyaki in Thailand restaurant,

but it's boiled meat in the pot.

(I imagined the fried ones The boiled one is like shabu-shabu.)

Have you ever tried the fried or boiled one, and where?

I want to know the district where sukiyaki is popular.

Thank you.

  1. I notice that (at least in the US) people tend to mix up sukiyaki and shabu-shabu.  To me sukiyaki is kind of "pan-fried" or quick grilled on a hot plate with some oil, and shabu-shabu is boiled in a nabe.

I think perhaps it was the fact that it was a Thai restaurant (as opposed to a Japanese one) that most explains the mix-up.  It's like going to a Thai restaurant for gyoza.

I had pretty good sukiyaki in France once (and of course, very good sukiyaki in JPN), but I'm not familiar with much of Qatar.  No matter what though, I'd recommend going to a Japanese restaurant for Japanese food.

  2. Each country has develop their own style of foods to match their own taste.  So if you want authentic taste and style, you have to go to the original restaurant

  3. according to wiki, it mentions nothing about fried meat, it talks about it being simmered.

Thai Sukiaki is different, but still both show they are both boiled.
