Is this Trek a good bike?

The 2008 models are out! YAY! I want to get a road bike, after being a MTBer for a while I think I'd like to hit the roads! I can only really afford the lower end RB they offer, the 1.2..I really wish I could get at least a 2 series. Oh well, will you please at least tell me if this is an acceptable? I would be using it for every day or or every day about 20 mile commutes. thanks and God bless you!

I own a 2004 Trek 1200 and love it..great road bike.

Until last year did 20 to 25 mi per day, no problems, nice ride,

Wife just bought 2007 Trek 4500 WSD.  Claims its best she ever owned.

Giving up Road biking cause of age. Trading in 1200 for Hybrid.

Definetly will be a TREK.

I am not a big fan of Trek!

They are overpriced, in order to support their dealer network! the bikes are ok though!

There are plenty of good bikes about, don't limit yourself to one brand, try a few out!

(if anyone says "Lance Armstrong won 7 TdF's on a Trek", I will shoot you down in flames, so . .be aware! - lol )

My advice: Treks are 'ok' but have a look around, there maybe something that suits you better!

Most bikes from the big brands like Trek, Specialized, Canondale, Gary Fisher, LeMond, Giant, etc. are very good bikes. They will hold up over time well and have a good level of components.

Buy a brand that fits you. Trek might work, but there are plenty of others out there too. Go to the local bike shop, get a good fitting, and go for a test ride.

Don't be afraid of last year's model. Honestly there is generally little difference. And you can often get last year's model at a distinct savings. It's a win-win. They move a bike, you save money and get a better bike that you probably couldn't have afforded otherwise.

The entry levels bikes from the big boys in the market are great, You'll get PLENTY of mileage from it. Heck, I still use my Specialized Allez (with Shimano Sora groupset) for weekend rides and such when the weather's not good enough for my pride and joy. Apart from upgrading the chainset (due to the threads for the pedals being stripped doe to LBS) I cannot fault it at all.

I don't know why so many people limit themselves to the Trek brand though. Seriously, go to your LBS and try out half a dozen bikes, I guarantee each one will feel slightly different - You never know you might hate the Trek compared to something like a Giant or Felt, etc...

As the 2009 models are now out, why not go for last years (2008) model. It'll most likely have better components and will be sold with a discount (in an attempt to shift the older stock).
