Question:

Is this a Dog eye infection?

Hello.

I've recently noticed something strange in the appearance of my rottweiler's left eye. For a couple of days he's had green gunk coming out of his eyes. I have tried cleaning the gunk off of his eyes but it comes back within an hour. I took a closer look at his eyes and there's some kind of weird gooey lining in his eye and his eye is also pink plus a little swollen in the socket of his eye.

Could it be pink eye? Will eye-drops for dogs work? Please. If anyone has a solution please tell me.

Thank you.

  1. Any green or yellow discharge of the eye would indicate an infection. The redness and swelling could be irritation from the infection. Dogs can get many kinds of eye problems from conjunctivitis to glaucoma to dry eye to an ulceration. You need to take him to the vet as this will not resolve on it's own and can lead to devastating problems to your pet if left untreated.

There are no over the counter medications that will help or cure whatever might be the issue in your pets eye. It would be worth your while to take him to be seen. It may be as simple as conjunctivitis, or as complicated as allergies and the only person who can accurately tell you for sure is your vet.
