  1. No, you are wasting your money on the mailings. Most important is to get all the experience acting that you can, then take a few acting classes at pro studios  and build the resume, that part you have right. When your resume is  good and strong, try to get an agent.

  2. Yes, that is a very good start.  We do what we can as actors with what we have and the more shows you get into, the more networking you do which is how you start obtaining bigger jobs.  Just make sure you don't commit to too much at one time, you want to put in your best work in each show whether it is community theater or a bigger production company.  I have found that taking classes is also a great way to start networking and learning new techniques.  Keep on keepin' on.

  3. Yes. Your doing all the right things. Apply for the summer programs at the local theatres too, 9 times out 10 will give auditions to people in prior musicals before they have open auditions. I know I do.

  4. That is the "mechanics" of the business, not the actual performing experience that will make you into acting. Acting is something broader... I would recommend first to be an actor, then afterwards look for a place to perform and start the "mechanics"... Imagine that finally someone calls you after doing all that stuff and you are not really prepared to perform... Just pursue it, perform, perform in any possible play to get seen by as many people possible... You also have to identify a style that you want. A person, group, or company that really make you think "I want to do that". Find a way to practice with their technique (and i said practice, besides study). Practice is finally what will get you on stage in a solid way. Make yourself clear if you want either a JOB or an artistic activity that will make you happy. Being notorious is not necessary being talented, or, even worse, it will make you compromise many ethical things that you might not like to do or act in plays that you dont really like. The commercial circuit not always cross roads with the pure artistic lane, so you have to be focused in what you deeply wish. Welcome! Best of luck
