Is this a bad call in texas holdem poker?

i had Ace of diomands and Ace of hearts

flop dealt

Ace Spades, 4 spades, K clubs,

one person bet $1000, i had $25,000 to play with

i called because i had trip aces

turn card was Ace Clubs(yeah i know what are the odds) so i betted $1,000 trying to lure other player in with low bets to trick him

then river was 2 spades

leabing house cards with

Ace spades, 4 spades, K clubs, Ace clubs and 2 spades

so i went all in because i knew quad aces are hard to beat.

but he had 3 and 5 spades giving him straight flush.

should i have seen that coming and not have gone all in with quad aces or should i have gone all in seein as straight flushes are really hard.

so the Q is did i make a bad call.

BTW dont worry i got most me money back. it wasnt real money it was on PKR fake money. but still was it a good call knowing the 600,000 to 1 odd risk

  1. yes

  2. The only thing that let you down is your $1000 bet on turn he already bet $1000 on his 2 draws (straight & flush) you knew he did not have the ace so he either was drawing or had a King in saying this when you only put $1000 instantly he had pot odds to call meaning that he only had to pay $1000 for a pot that at least $3000 not to mention blinds plus your preflop raise so he was getting good value to see the last card if you banged it on the turn you would have made no value for him to chase. But the last word is that it was free poker and people will call anything because it didn't cost them anything but if you have invested $1000 to the games your going to play a little more sensible

  3. can't fold quad aces.  ever.

  4. I would of played it the same.  The other guy has no skills and just got lucky.  He would of not called your pre-flop raise with 3, 5 suited if it was real money. He limped in,  seen two spades on flop and went fishing for another spade. I guarantee you he was not expecting to hit the strait flush.

  5. no....with that hand i would have thought i had the best.... the st flush is pretty rare.....that was a big frak of nature there.... iprob would have done the same as u.... but prob would have checked a cuple of times instead of betting..... but thats me

  6. You can never really know  what  the others persons cards are so you  just have to go  with  what  you  know . Cards are a game  of luck  and  Skill . You  had a great hand  and I  would have  done the  same

  7. First thing. You didn't call. You bet all in. He called.

Since you're playing with play money, it doesn't really matter how badly you did.

But you played this hand pretty badly.

Flop you should be raising, how many people were in this hand?

You have top set, but with a flush draw out there, you don't want to give people odds to draw. Are you going to be able to fold your hand when a third spade comes on the turn?

    Raise to 3500-4000.

Turn, great you hit the monster. 1,000 maybe if you want to pretend like you have nothing. But you need his money in the pot. Bet half the pot at least.

River, well it's either really good or really bad depending on how you look at it. If your image is a complete fish that just hit your flush, you'd get called straight away by any full house you beat. But he didn't play like he had a full house.

So all in is not the right move here. Bet pot and shove all in if he raises.

I recommend you read some forum material on how to play and think at the poker table. Cardplayer, or Poker Fives. They will help your game if you ever plan on playing for real.

Or if you just play for fun, that's a good call. =)

  8. wow bad luck! Could you really lay down Quads if you value bet the river and your opponent put you all in?  I think pushing all in was a bad move because you may have scared the guy off if he did not have a big hand.

It is what it is...Do not be result oriented analyzing this hand is a waste of time.  If you ever have a similiar hand in the 12 months I would be shocked.  Quads can only be beaten by two things.  Better quads or a straight flush, both are unlikely and if it happens very unlucky.

  9. You couldn't play it any other way.... You lost but at the end of the day its just one of those hands where you say thats poker baby.

The only thing you could have done was re raise his $1,000. The reason I say this is because he didn't have anything and would have folded while you had trips.

Its not always about getting the most amount of money at one time, sometimes scaring some one off and taking only $1,000 PLUS PRE FLOP POT IS GOOD ENOUGH. I've worked in Casino for 10 years and seen more flops then you have seen hot dinners. The amount of times I have seen people lose the nutz hand on the river is unbelievable.

I would have re-raised $9,000 the $1,000 and he wouldn't have called while chasing a flush. Instead of losing $25K you would have won $2K +

  10. You did nothing wrong.  No one is ever going to fold quad aces.  To think that another player has you beat with a straight flush is just looking for monsters under the bed.  If you play like that you are playing scared, and scared money is rarely a winner.

You had one of those tough beats that you will remember for a long time, it happens.  I've been on the other end of that making a straight flush to a boat and a king high straight.  Sometimes you'll be on the bad end, sometimes you'll be on the good end.

There are times to beat yourself up and accept that you played badly.  When you get quad aces cracked, it's just one of those things.  It probably won't happen again in the next 10 years.

  11. I hope you raised preflop with your AA.  Regardless, no way do you ever fold this, period.  If I was in this situation at the final table of the world series of poker, with millions of dollars on the line, I'm calling that bet right away.  You played it right.  I don't care how strong of a read you think you have on someone, there's just no way you should ever fold a hand this strong.  There are times in poker where if you don't lose all of your chips, you played the hand wrong.  This is one of those times.

  12. When you have "the nuts" you go all in...and you didn't...end of story...you let the person get there

  13. Nah, there was no way around that hand. The only way to have won would have been to raise a lot before the river so that your opponent doesn't chase his flush. But you can't assume he is going for a straight flush (especially because he has two of the hole cards to make the straight flush). If I had quad aces, I would have slow played it too, hoping that he MAKES his flush. So, there was no way to avoid that hand. It wasn't meant to be. Consider one of many bad beats you will face in poker.
