For the past few weeks I had this horrible cold that left my chest all congested. Now that it went away, I'm left with this dry cough (with slight wheezing), that makes my back/neck hurt from coughing so much and its hard to sleep because i always have this urge to cough when i lay down. Since I have some anxiety, my chest already has tightness and this cough is making it worse because im nervous at every second something serious can happen which makes me cough more to try and get the phlegm out (i know i need a hobby). Anyway, the doctor gave me an inhalor (said i don't have asthma, just to have so I can breathe easier) but I'm nervous to take it because I've never used one before (nervous something will happen-yet another reason i need a hobby) When I'm not thinking about these issues though and keeping myself busy I feel a tiny bit better and dont cough as much which leads me to believe my mind might just be making it worse. Do you think I have something actually wrong or am just making it worse by overly coughing with my crazy hypochondria? Do you think the inhalor will help at all and not cause any type of reaction? The cough only really bothers me at certain times of the day, especially when I'm anxious or at night when i lay down(haven't had a good nights sleep in weeks). My parents and the doctor think it can also be a slight case of allergies. Thanks for any help!!!

PS. I had a chest xray just to check for any serious lung congestion and it came back clear!!

  1. well in my opinion i think that whenever you start feeling anxious or nervous have a drink of water to keep your throat moist and take a couple of deep breaths to try and calm yourself down.  if things start to get worse, start to use the inhaler.
