I am staying in a hotel on Sherbourne Street and was wondering if the area south of Bloor and north of Carlton on this street was safe or dangerous or just a little shady.

Thanks so much :)

  1. thats quite close to where ilive, a litttle more north/east depending excatally where you speak fof.

its a little shady, bud not dangerous.  my area is nice, just a little more east is a bit shady.  the closer you ar e to bloor is also nicer.

  2. downtown is a little shady. the most you would see are some pickpockets and panhandlers. The suburbs (if you're planning to go there) are relatively safe, although there's a lot of murder to the East (Scarborough-East York) lately.

  3. It's a funny area. Within a few hundred feet of Bloor, it's very safe. North of Bloor is one of the most expensive neighbourhodos in Canada. Nearby you have Yorkville -- the boutique shops favoured by movie stars, etc.

But the actual area near Carleton and Sherbourne is not as nice. The highrises are the problem ... no street-level security.

I don't see many gangs in this area ... more crack-heads. They're not usually violent ... it's just prudent to cross the street if you see someone yelling at a stop sign. Night tends to be worse.

  4. This area is a little shady and rundown, but it's very close to a lot of nicer areas.

  5. It's safe, but as others have said, it's a little shady and really, only at night. It's not because of violent crime, but you will see homeless people on the sidewalks panhandling, so be forewarned. The location is very good in terms of subway accessibility though, as you're very close to the Sherbourne subway station. Also, you can walk to most points of interest in the downtown area. Have a good trip!
