Question:

Is this a bad time for a job change?

I'm not really pleased with my work and would like to change jobs for something more interesting and more challenging.

However, I've only been here 6 months, and my last two jobs were 6 month contracts (non-renewable). I'm sure I could still find another job sometime over the next month or two, but in another 6 months after that my bf and I are planning to move in together and I'll be leaving my city to live with him. That means that if I change jobs now I most likely won't be in it longer than another six months.

I'm scared that this could work against me in the next city and that I will appear as someone who can't hold a job longer than 6 months when there are totally valid reasons for each switch.

At the same time, I don't really enjoy my current work and the thought of doing it for another six months doesn't thrill me at all. I know it's better for my resume and my next job, but what about my fulfilment? And what if my bf and I end up not moving in until later for whatever reason (can't find an apt, etc.)? I would be stuck in this job until then...

What should I do?

  1. Switching jobs all the time,

does not look good on your "resume." <}:-})

  2. i had a job for 3 years, and i hated it sooo much but i stuck in for experience and its good for resume, when companies look at your resume they like to look at the length...but i dont think its a problem if your qualified for the job

do what you like the most, waking up in the morning and going to work doing what you love most is the best feeling..your life is too short to just sit around and always wonder what you should do next, without jumping to a new opportunity that makes you happy

i think you should do what ever is on your mind, and if your secure with the decision

  3. id stick it for the sake of 6 months i know your not that happy but employers like longevity and moving about when not on contracts show you don't like to stay anywhere for 2 long. you have a good reason for changing jobs with your previous ones don't let this one spoil it, and if you don't move bang on 6 months its not going to be much longer than that, apartments aren't that hard to find!! Good luck x
