Question:

Is this a balanced diet for a vegetarian?

This is basically what I eat everyday:

Breakfast: nonfat yogurt/cottage cheese with honey and some sort of fruit (an apple, orange, strawberries etc)

Lunch: veggies, tofu, or pita and hummus.

Dinner: vegetables, Boca burger, dahl (lentils)

Am I missing any major nutritional groups?

  1. I would eat more grains if I were you.  You could try eating some fortified breakfast cereal in the morning with some soy milk.

Also, I think you should have more fruit and more vegetables, but couldn't we all...

I can't really say my diet is perfect though either...

Breakfast- fortified breakfast cereal or oatmeal with soy milk and orange juice, multivitamin

Lunch- PB and J or PB and ricemallow on wheat, or 2 tomato sandwiches or leftovers

Dinner- something like vegan chili and cornbread, macaroni and soy cheese with tomatoes, smart dogs and beans...

Snacks- 1 or 2 of these a day:  raw or cooked vegetables, fruit, soy yogurt, soy pudding, popcorn, sunchips, vegan powerbars...blah blah blah...

  2. You are missing the complex carbohydrates. And they are important as they are a great source of energy. Brown Rice, Quinoa, or Quinoa Pasta

  3. You should eat a little more fruit (we all should). Try adding in some FUN, though. Go for setan, some pasta ( you can now buy vegan, though as you eat dairy, I don't think that is a concern), beans for protein, etc. I'd also suggest some of Kashi's cereals for fiber, your above referenced foods might not have quite enough fiber, depending on which veggies you are eating.

  4. that sounds good

but you could use some more grain (such as: bread, pasta, etc.)

  5. Hey, that sounds fabulous!
