Is this a better representation of the Olympic Medal Count?

Question

I've weighted the Olympic Medal Count to give us a better idea of the overall standings. Gold gets 3 points, Silver - 2 Points and Bronze 1 Point. I think this should be considered into implementation, but I wonder if it will because we wouldn't want to lose our Rose Colored Glasses...

Why change the current convention of number of gold medals having precedence. I'm happy to use that method regardless of whether it improves my country's position in the table.

Good work.  Seriously.

But one major flaw.  Not all gold medals are created equal.  Michael Phelps has 8 gold medals, whereas the U.S. basketball team, through all of their hard work, can only win 1.  The U.S. women's sabre individuals won 3 medals,  1 of each kind, but Ukraine women's sabre team only won 1 gold medal.

Point is, any system is systematically flawed, which is why there is no real way to determine the "best country" by medal count.  The point of the Olympics is to spread goodwill among countries, not to count medals.

Again though, good work on the data.

It is actually a better system..i agree with you!

We can have a clear winner unlike the current system. But this way of scoring is not recognised by the Olympic association.

Gold should actually get 4 points

the IOC ranks countries based on gold

and everybody would agree the Gold is what it is all about
