Question:

Is this a broken radio?

Hi everyone. My radio has a little problem. Every time I put a CD in and press play, the little writing shows up saying "No Disc". The actual radio works fine. It plays all the station etc. Does the radio need repairs for the CD to work again, or can I do something to make it work. Thanks.

  1. Sounds like the laser lens went kaput to me...

get it repaired, or better yet, treat yourself to a new, shiny one :)

  2. 1. You need to find a CD that you know works OK in another player. If you look at the shiny side of the CD and don't see any major scratches then the CD is probably playable.

    2. Can you see the lens in the CD player? It may have some crud on it that is blocking the laser light from being transmitted or received. You can buy some compressed air and/or a brush from a photo store and try cleaning the lens, but do it VERY gently. I think there are cleaning CDs that have little brushes on them and use alcohol to clean the lens---you may want to try this as a last resort.

    3. If it still doesn't work, then there is a mechanical or electrical problem in the CD player component of your unit. It may not be worth repairing, as new players are relatively cheap.
