This is primarily aimed at people in Ireland, though others (from the UK) are free to answer, as Ireland and the UK are close together geographically. (Especially people from Wales, Western England and Western Scotland)

Here is an example of what I am talking about.

I remember growing up as a child in Ireland, and rain was part and parcl of the Irish climate. We even were advised to put a plastic bag in our bags, as a liner, so that our bags would not get wet inside. Think about that.

Angela's Ashes made a big deal about the rain hitting Ireland (Limerick, really)

Then came the 1990s. The amount of sunshine increased. People started stopping lining their bags with plastic bags, sunned themselves more.

Now that a bit of rain hit us again, people are bewailing the weather. Surely is it a case of selective memory, or is the weather reverting to type, for these shores?

What do you think?

  1. I don't know about rain being on the increase but the last few summers have been worse in terms of the amount of sunshine received. I think the rain we get is pretty standard the whole year around. Maybe you are remembering a lot of Winter rain aswell? Are climate is basically the same the whole year around and i do beleive at this stage the whole of the year is just like one long spring/autumn . No real summer and no harsh winter. We have not had snow for years either. Its just all blurring into one now.
