Is this a common attitude?

A question was asked about how the gas prices negatively affetced their lives...this scary answer was posted..I will not give the persons name, but she is really scary in her answer. This is only part of the answer..quoted only for relevance "People complain that drilling into Alaskan sources would harm the environment and make it ugly. Well, I think people should value their families more than stupid trees and animals that they are most likely never going to see anyway (how many people go to Alaska?). They could always set up boundaries and regulations to keep it from destroying all the beauty of Alaska. But no, let's hug the trees and watch our friends and neighbors become homeless and starve to death."

Do you think this is how most people think, or are people starting to wrap their heads around the idea that we need alternative fuel sources which do not include destroying the environment?

  1. It sounds like that person is angry that people try to convince others that protecting the environment should be the highest priority in their lives, even over raising and protecting their own family.  I see the sarcasm in the "let's hug trees" sentence.  I can't say that I disagree with her.  Like most people, I'm sure she's not advocating the destruction of Alaskan wildlife, but it really angers me when somebody criticizes me because i'm doing things so my family can have a better life.  And she is right in the fact that Alaska has been protected by a bunch of over zealous environmentalists who would literally protect a few trees instead of allowing a prosperous economy.  The truth is, we can have the best of both worlds.  Alaska is a vast wilderness with good resources.  If we can drill for oil and improve the lives of our nation's people without damaging Alaska, why not do it?  I think you need to really look into how a larger supply of oil can benefit everyone's lives.

EDIT:  And I can't believe that you're so stuck on this notion that by using oil we're killing the planet.  The fact is, earth is not in dire straits like you so obviously believe.  It's time to look past the propaganda that the media and Al Gore have been feeding you.  The planet is fine, oil drives the economy, and without it, you wouldn't have many of the nice things you enjoy.  Quite frankly, if you choose to live that way in a grass hut without the use of fossil fuels, it's your life, do what you wish.  But I believe that we are doing just fine as is and by safely drilling in Alaska, we can improve lives with a cheaper, efficient fuel to run in our daily lives.  So heed this advice, stop worrying about what I'm doing and mind your own d**n business.  That's what makes this country great, I'm free to do what I wish without someone else forcing me to abide by their beliefs.

  2. I don't agree with that persons point of view. What I've decided to do is rely less on my car. I try to streamline my tasks and don't waste tons of fuel driving needlessly. Luckily there are a few handfuls of companies looking to change the way we drive.

One has even came up with a car that is fueled by compressed air! To find out more about this vehicle, please check out the source below.

  3. The oil Co. are like a huge vacuum cleaner sucking up all the money. When they get the money cornered they will be sorry and we will too. We will fall into a world depression  if this oil robbery is allowed to continue. This environmental thing is nothing if the oil situation continues . They should have the Money market sewed up in less than 2 years.

  4. the problem is reports of the oil reserves in Alaska is that there is only about 15 years of oil up there or less
