Question:

Is this a common description of depression ??

I took a online physiologic test and got this:

"When you experience a setback or problem in your life, one of the last things on your mind is what other people will think. You generally don't believe that others take pleasure in your problems, that they feel sorry for you, or that they are otherwise judgmental of you. This frees you from what, for some people, is a major concern. It also means that you are comfortable seeking comfort from others when you are in emotional pain. Therefore, the benefits of this attitude are twofold – you can seek out emotional support when you need it, and are free from worry about being judged by others."

  2. I dont know if thats a description of depression, it doesnt sound like it to me.  Its not really a good description of anything.  lol.

  3. I would be wary of online tests that claim to be able to tell you about your mental health, or a diagnosis.  Think about it-you dont know the credability of the creator, their profession.  It could be some 17 year old kid making the test from his bedroom using a bit of information he's read from the net.

Sezbot listed the symptoms of depression accurately, what the test described doesnt sound like depression to me. It just sounds like a vague, wishy washy attempt at character analysis!

These tests are okay for a bit of harmless fun though, and what it claims to reveal about you are positive things!

I wouldnt worry about having depression if I were you, and if you do ever feel like you have depression which is affecting your ability to function in your daily life then the best place for you to seek advice is your doctor, not online.

  4. Hey!  I'm a sufferer from depression and the symptoms that i experience are:

    Feeling of worthlessness or helplessness

Feeling that there is no reason to live

Suicidal thoughs and/or thoughts of self harm

Lack of motivation or interest in activities usually enjoyed

Low energy even after a good sleep (fatigue)

    Withdrawal from people

    Crying spells

    Lack of appetite

Weight loss (can be gain in some people though)

Feelings of lonliness or that people don't understand how things are for you

    Dissociation

    Low self esteem

Symptoms differ with different people, but anyone with depression will be able to tell you that it makes a huge impact on how you are able to live your life without receiving proper support.  People with depression don't always seek out support because they feel that they'll never feel happy again or that no one can do anything for them.  Some people may also believe that they shouldn't 'bother' anyone with their problems, opting to try and sort them out on their own.

I don't know about this psychological test or what it actually means in terms of depression - but the statement described if a very positive result.  If you ARE suffering from any of the above symptoms then you are more likely then most people to seek help for it.  It seems that you are very comfortable with other people and with who you are and you're not afraid to be honest about how you are feeling.  You're lucky in this respect.

I hope this has been helpful and has answered your question.  Good luck!
