Is this a defect on Honda Van?

I have this 2007 van for about 18 months. To me this is a problem since purchase. When I am on the uphill road, after the van stop, switch shift from 'D' to 'N' and switch back to 'D then release the break ', the van will keep going backwards for about 1feet, then it stops. this is very dangerous to me.

my other car does not have this problem, as soon as i switch to 'D' shift, the car wont go backwards on a uphill road.

  1. Its not a defect.  The transmission has to engage fully.  Why would you put it into neutral when stopping?  They are designed to be left in drive even when you are stopped at light or something.

  2. Yeah don't bother putting the car in N when you come to a stop, it does nothing for you. It doesn't save you any noticeable amount of gas when you stop and put it into neutral. The reason the van moves backwards is because your on a hill, its heavy, and the transmission has to re-engage back into D again, which takes a second or so to do. Don't place the car in N at stops.

  3. Easy fix. DO NOT put it in neutral when you stop.  There is no need to do that,  You put it in "D" and drive it, no need to move it.

  4. I'm with emiller...going up a hill   you stop..keep it in gear...if rolling back a problem put left foot on brake and right on gas.......with foot on brake push gas until u feel slack gone and drive engaged.take foot off brake and go..  you need to learn your car...they r not all the same
